Prayer

The purpose of the Prayer Ministry is to offer intercessory prayer in a regular and systematic way for the leaders of our church, the work of our church, the needs of our members, and also for the community and worldwide needs.  Anyone can join the Prayer Ministry.  Pray-ers choose a day of the week and a time to devote to prayer using our Prayer Guide.  We also use the church directory so that all members and their children are prayed for on a regular basis.  Pray-ers may pray at home or in the church Prayer Room.

The Prayer Ministry also coordinates with the Fellowship of Deacons to have someone praying in the Prayer Room during Sunday morning worship services each week.  We pray for our pastor as he preaches, for the congregation in the sanctuary, and for those watching the televised service.

The Prayer Ministry sends notes of encouragement to those in the hospital, to those in college, to those bereaved, to those who have had a baby, and to those on the Prayer Guide.  We are developing a ministry of sending notes to the men and women in the armed services.

In addition, we maintain a Prayer Line (228-7072), which receives requests that are phoned in by our members and people in the community.  We update and record prayer requests on the Prayer Line three times a week.  We also telephone people on the Prayer Guide list to see how they are doing and to assure them we are still praying for them.  The Prayer Ministry also has a Telephone Emergency Prayer Chain.

First Baptist Church believes in prayer!  We know we need God’s guidance and power for our work to be effective.  Therefore, we invite and encourage our church family to support and become a part of the Prayer Ministry.
